ALMA Status Update: Towards Wideband Sensitivity Upgrade

Misato Fukagawa

ABSTRACT :
We will report on the operational status of ALMA and preparations for the implementation of the Wideband Sensitivity Upgrade (WSU). Regarding the operational aspects, the transition from Cycle 9 to Cycle 10 took place at the end of September 2023 as planned, and Cycle 10 observations have begun, which will continue until September 2024. In Cycle 9, full configuration-9 and 10 were attained on schedule and it was the most successful cycle for the TP Array in ALMA history. PI science observations in Band 1 have started in March 2024. In terms of development, while the development projects such as Band 1 receivers and ACA Spectrometer have been completed, vigorous work is underway for the WSU to upgrade Band 8 receivers, develop the data transmission system, and designing the WSU Total Power GPU Spectrometer in East Asia. Internationally, ALMA continues to develop detailed plans towards the implementation of the WSU. This presentation will provide an update on the latest status.
